ABOUT THE FIRM
An advisory practice led by an architect
Waatti & Wrights exists for the period of a commercial project when the questions are largest, the information is thinnest, and the decisions are most expensive to reverse.
FOUNDER STORY
A practice built from the questions clients kept asking
The firm began with a pattern that repeated across years of licensed architectural practice. Clients arrived with drawings requested and decisions already made; a lease signed, a use assumed, a schedule promised and the most valuable conversation was one that should have happened months earlier.
Those conversations were rarely about design. They were about whether a building could support an intended use, which approvals a municipality would require, who belonged on the project team, and how long the process would realistically take. They were advisory questions, and no one was being paid to answer them well.
Waatti & Wrights was founded to answer them properly: as a dedicated engagement, at the beginning of a project, with the independence to say plainly what a client needs to hear.
OUR MISSION
To give Michigan business owners the clarity to make confident commercial project decisions before significant money is invested.
CORE VALUES
What guides our work
Clarity
Plain answers, given early. If a project is not viable as conceived, you will hear it from us before you spend money proving it.
Coordination
Someone must own the space between consultants. On our projects, that responsibility is explicit.
Judgment
Experience applied to your specific circumstances rather than a standard process applied to every project.
Stewardship
We treat a client's capital, schedule, and reputation as things worth protecting, because they are.
WHY ARCHITECT-LED CONSULTING MATTERS
The training that reads a project whole
An architect is trained to hold an entire project in view at once: zoning and code, structure and systems, accessibility and life safety, cost and sequence, and the approvals that bind them together. That breadth is precisely what early-stage decisions require.
Specialists provide depth where a project needs it. What a client usually lacks is someone who can see how those disciplines interact and who can identify the consequence of a decision in one area on every other.
Architect-led consulting is not a marketing distinction. It is the reason our advice accounts for the parts of a project that have not been asked about yet.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
“We Build Teams, Not Buildings.”
Our value is not in replacing the specialists a project needs. It is in determining which specialists it needs, defining what each should carry, and holding the whole effort together so nothing falls between them.
We are engaged before design begins
Most architects are hired once a project is decided. We are hired to help decide it; which is where the greatest financial exposure sits.
We coordinate rather than compete
We recommend and coordinate specialists suited to your project instead of stretching a single firm across scopes it should not carry.
We are independent of the outcome
We do not sell construction, and we do not need a project to proceed. Our recommendation is only ever what we believe is right for the project.
We understand municipal review
Approval processes vary meaningfully across Michigan communities. Knowing how a specific jurisdiction reviews work is a practical advantage.
Clarity Before Commitment
Let's talk about what your project will require.
A discovery call establishes whether our advisory practice is the right fit for the decision in front of you.
